I know it's not harvest time quite yet, but this devotion can speak to all of us in a number of ways.
"I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor." John 4:38
In nature, God has set in motion a plan that replenishes the earth. Obviously, several trees cannot grow in the same spot of ground so the seeds that fall from an established tree are carried away by small animals, by wind and rain, or sometimes by people. When a new tree is planted, many elements of circumstance, climate, and care come together to help that tree grow. That new tree does not exist and mature solely on its own. You might say that its survival has been a "group effort".
So it is with the kingdom of God. We all do not perform the same task. Even when it comes to the salvation of others, many of us may have worked to win one soul. Some of us may set an example of Christianity. Others of us may have the opportunity to share our faith. Still others may point out God's plan of salvation. And still for others, we may experience the joy of sharing the moment when their soul accepts our Lord as their Savior. Who is more important? Each of us is important, for God uses all of us to do His work. We each have played a significant role in the salvation of this person...just as God has asked and expects from us.
We often become frustrated because we do not always see the results of our work. It is easy to feel like we are not doing enough for the Lord. We must remember that we work as a team in His holy name.
Heavenly Father, help us to always be willing to share Your good news with others. Help us to remember and to take pride in the fact that we work together in doing Your will. Amen.
